The leaves lurk away, from a beautiful word,
carved in stones, laid beneath.
The word that infused and nurtured,
him with her love, her blood
How his changed priorities had
crippled a beautiful relationship,
with his aged father and Mother!

That Girl in White Socks

October 30, 2014 6 Comments

Black Coffee, honey, Lemon tea
Jam, Jelly and Crispy brown Toasts.
Spread all over the floor.
Is it a cafe or sign of
Winter gluttony?

Err, Ahem, No
fumbled the girl whose socks were no more yellow.
as she stood up from her place
under the cellar room,
to lit up the room furnace
that was once used
to warm pizza dough
now a mere toasting stove.

She stood up from her place
tied her arms in self embrace,
curled her foot over the other
and said
Umm I meant no offense
Winter has come,
and like those polar bears in Alaska,
I have plans, to hibernate

Unfortunately in city of Mumbai
Coldness is plenty, but no winters
Alas!
I wanted to experience
how would it be,
if winter it was.

Healthy Kids make healthy Home

October 19, 2014 1 Comments

Ria was leaving for office and thought of checking if her daughter has finished eating breakfast or not. As she looked over the table, she found Jia’ breakfast plate totally filled, untouched. She was shocked to see her daughter’s falling appetite and summoned her quickly. Jia came from her room promptly on her mother’s behest but she was dull as ever and found difficult climbing the dining chair given her feeble weight. Ria, worried over her daughter’s falling health, left her car keys aside and sat on the table in bid to make her 6 year old daughter take a proper meal.

The little girl looked over the contents in her plates and started making faces. Like a lot of other girls of her age, she resisted eating greens and yellows in her plate. She has built a strong disliking towards milk and would only eat chips and cold drinks. Chips and cold drinks? Well they are not a very healthy thing to eat and are definitely not a substitute for nutrition. Since Ria was a working mother, she insisted to have her daughter fed a substantial meal before she leaves for her work. Today was no different.

She tried doing different recipes in a bid to make her daughter eat. She even made spinach-peas Samosa, Pasta with mixed vegetable sauce, but often find her daughter skim through the portions wherein she will pick only samosa crust and leave the filling aside, and pasta pieces, wiping the sauce with kitchen tissues.  As a result, Jia started falling sick often and that had started showing on her behavior. Jia started getting cranky over small issues and would often get tired easily. Her activities level fell down drastically and the usual “happy go lucky” Jia, who was the candy of all eyes, started behaving remorse and difficult. The worried parents took her to doctors and all of them said the same thing that Jia’s diet has to be managed. Ria’s husband Rajiv was a corporate honcho who would be often travelling abroad for work. Last week he missed his flight to Frankfurt as he was busy rushing Jia to doctor late that evening. Their social life too has taken a backseat and their casual leaves, to attend the ailing Jia were also on high side. In short their family life has turned restless, hectic and unhappy.
When he returned this morning from his trip, he saw a worried Ria nagging their daughter to eat her food. AS soon as Jia saw her father coming, she kept the spoon aside and rushed to hug her father. Papa Papa she yelled from the table. The doting father ran forward and took his darling daughter in his arms. He glanced at his worried wife and signaled her to calm down. When Jia asked what her father bougt for her from his trip, he took her near his suitcase, opened and took out two medium size paper bag from it and asked Jia to choose one.

“How can I choose without knowing what is in the bag papa. It is so not fair” quipped the young girl.

“Hmmm, you are right” said her father and opened one bag which was full of medicines, syrups and injections. The daughter was shocked to see and said- “So many medicines papa?”

“Yes honey, the way you are falling sick and not eating your food properly, you may need to eat lot of these medicines. Also, let me tell you that they are very bitter. And the injections will become painful when doctors will give it on your little bum again and again.”

“Oops, what is the other choice papa?”

“Well the other choice is a spoon of chywanprash. Just one spoon every day post your food and you will be strong girl. Now choice is yours, baby” said the father

“If I eat a spoon of it every day post food, I will become healthy, papa? Then I need not have to eat these medicines and the one in my room”.

“No you may not have to eat any medicines as you will become healthy” Said the father

“If I become healthy, you will become happy papa”

Yes, If you become healthy, you will be happy. If you become happy, we all will be happy” said the doting father.
The girl noded in affirmation and ran back to the dining table where her mother was waiting to feed her. Jia without making any faces further, started eating the spinach – pulse soup, all by herself. She realized that her parents are unhappy with her health and if she becomes healthy, her family will become happy. After all, A healthy child makes a happy home.

A Poetry on #Selfie

October 12, 2014 , 10 Comments

Self-portrait, Vivian Maier

"Look within self", said the inner voice
"That's my Alter ego", she surmise
and peeped inside the mirror
to see if that reflected.

"Oh there are layers to it.
Or is it the mirror that lies?
Nah! Mirrors are not human
but its human that design mirrors".

She looked between the layers
she threw some thoughtful lights

Against the blue walls
and printed facades
She emerged farther from herself
the farther she went,
the irony in best,
mirror reflected her image
closer and intact

That artificial light, hold across her head
appeared as Halo in LED.
at the farther end of her image.
Come closer, the aura is dim nothing
but artificial flashlights
that a! She held in her hand tight!
to look herself in better light
or portray her image in flash light

"Are these mirrors telling me something"? She amazed
at the double entendre mirror played
with her image
or is it her image
that tricked mirror to effects
that she liked to capture
In her self designed portrait picture.

Abandoning introspection, she clicked
the shutter, the aperture's lens blinked.

Ah! That was the picture that she clicked,
that was the image she tricked
with Camera and mirror
Selfie(s) are such a fad!
Over the generations it stayed.

You think it rhymes with Selfish?
Ah! Well no wonder it is so popular.
No wonder it such a mass affair
We click what we want to portray
Using mirrors often to betray
Click more Selfie (s), far and close
introspect the reality and bridge the gap.
Yes Selfie rhymes with selfish
but at the end of day, its meant to be disclose

Run Lola Run

October 05, 2014 , 24 Comments

Boundaries breaks with communications
love is the strongest ammunition
Then why use bullets?

Flowing water has no religion,
nor winds or wings of birds has bounds of borders
Then why create it for Humans?

These were many questions
that eroded Lola's notion
and she regretted falling in love

Love was her divine folly
That took her from her home's comfort to Swat Valley
Her lover was an appointed soldier

Why to wait endlessly for soldier's return
situation to move or fate to turn
Iron mesh could not cease you behind.
Take wings of fancy and climb,
enter the prohibition
leave your inhibitions
breath your dreams,
break the barriers,
Break the stereotypes, Shock, Shun!
It's dawn break,
Run Lola Run!

Chapter of that Book

October 04, 2014 12 Comments

“We loose ourselves in books, we find ourselves there too”

We opened our eyes
and to surprise, found a new world around
shocked and astound
about the life so new-found
Well it was "chapter of that book"
which we call birth and infancy.

Footloose and fancy-free
running behind butterflies
savoring candy, cola and innocence.
"Childhood" was the "chapter of that book"

Books and music and beyond
discovering hobbies, making friends
incubating new hormones and battling fads and trends
we sailed through that phase
"Chapter of that book" was Teenage
where we felt like birds waiting to be un-caged.

with education we found new wings
and new melodies that heart could sing
where everything was bright and colorful.
"youth" was next chapter of that book
before "mid-age" could set in to sting.

Now we are all grown
Wonder where all those dreams have gone
Life has stood on a crossroad
and on this juncture we find ourselves alone
The world continues to move.
But we have stopped running the maze.
Guess this is the "old age"
"Chapter of that book"
which we call life.

Life is indeed a book
where we loose ourselves in
and find ourselves there too.

Autumn in Madeira

October 01, 2014 , 3 Comments

Autumn in Madeira by Jacek Yerka
He painted a landscape
dunk in surrealism
Of orange, Yellow, green and
all hues of Autumn

He painted a small hill
in middle of green meadows
Hill that sheltered some wooden houses
One of them has a car, ensconced through the pasture road

He painted trees- tall, dark,
lean, leaned above the condominium layout.
giving lengths to birds for Burrows
and falling leaves to prairies' clout.

He painted Autumn, Autumn in Madeira
Set against the muggy skies.
Ah! It is such a beautiful sight!
